Dueling Tournament
Ive been thinking a bit that it would be great fun to have some sort of dueling tournament. I dont know how many that would join at a such event but the tournament board could look something like this:
It starts of with a series of group matches, were you meet everyone in your group. That means that everyone will play atleast 3 or 4 games(depending how many participants we ll have) and will not be eliminated from the tournament at once. The best (for example) 2 in everygroup continues to the single-elimination tournament were you will be eliminated from the tournament if you loose a game. Last one standing wins the whole thing and everyone cheers for him/her. Single elimination tournaments is widely used in tournaments with no tied matches, e.g. tennis.
The example above is made for 8-20 people but if we get more participants we could add more groups, longer elimination table etc. If we get a nice round number, say 16 or 32 attendants we could have a A-final and a B-final, where (for example) the 2 best in each group goes to the the A-final, and nr3 and 4 in each groups goes to the B-final.
This is just a example how it could be done.

Well the Spanking Phoenixes is going on ski holiday for the next 14 days and they apparently was to lazy to put it up for PvP monday this week, shame on them So I guess we have to wait some weeks before a tournament will become a reality.

Re: Dueling Tournament
Lovely idea Alex. And yes as Sagi says we're planning for something like this.
However what we were thinking of would be a tournament of team battles with random teams of say 3 people.
The reason for doing it in teams is the fact that classes are very unbalanced with regards to 1v1 duels. For instance mages really have no chance against healers or locks. Where warlocks beats all casters. So the tournament would be too dependant on which classes face which and not depend on one's skill.
However forming teams will make the battles much more balanced and therefore more fun and fair for everyone and the team pvp tournament could easily be done in a world arena like gubanashi in STV.
However I also see a great point in doing a 1v1 tournament - namely training your skills against other classes, however overpowered they may be against you. For most classes it is possible to beat your counterclass if you know how to play and your opponent doesn't. So training this is important as well as training how to be overpowered the other way around.
So it's all a matter of what people feel for. Both things can and will be done and we will prolly start with a team tournament on the next AV monday. However post your thoughts if you disagree and we will change our minds.
Hope this message makes any kind of sense. I'm kinda tired and stupid after spending 30 hours in a bus
Much love from Buffy

Re: Dueling Tournament
Maybe when you ask people if they want to join you should label them: Complete Beginner, Some Experience, Arena God so that, for example, no one expects me to pwn as I die at the hands of...well...almost anything...gusts of wind, passing snails...you get the drift.
